Types of Containers Used for Pool Construction
The standardized dimensions of reusable cargo containers allow for the easy combination of multiple modules by connecting them in width or length. To construct pools from maritime containers either DIY or with the help of a specialized crew, 20- or 40-foot models are often used.
- 20-foot modules: Characterized by a length of approximately 6 meters and a height and width of 2.3 meters, these are an ideal choice for a children’s pool. Convenient for installation in small garden areas near homes and summer cottages.
- 40-foot containers: With a depth and width of 2.3 meters, these models have a length of approximately 12 meters, making them suitable for both children and adult swimming. Enhanced with stairs, handrails, terraces, and canopies, these pools are installed on large plots. If, in the first case, about 30 m3 of water is needed to fill the reservoir, in the second case, it’s twice as much. The top of the container, after removing the roof, can be adorned in various ways – with a steel angle border or terraces for relaxation.

For user convenience, stairs with handrails are installed. The Canadian design involves cutting the roof, ground installation, and the installation of transparent inserts into the side walls.

A vertical partition can be installed inside the container, turning a part of the pool into a jacuzzi.

Varieties of Shipping Container Pool Construction Technologies
Water features made from metal containers can be installed on the ground surface or completely or partially submerged. Let’s examine each option in more detail.
- Above-ground method: This is the least resource-intensive method. Before creating a pool from a maritime cargo container, a small pit is prepared in which a shallow foundation is arranged. The container is installed on it using construction equipment, securing it to the reinforcing outlets of the concrete foundation. An additional advantage of this approach is the rapid heating of water, thanks to the metal walls heated by the sun.

- Submerged method: This is a more expensive method. The module is installed in a pit with a prepared foundation and reinforced walls. In this case, the pool closely resembles a traditional water feature.

Advantages of Building a Pool from a Shipping Container
Metal maritime containers are becoming increasingly popular for creating small water features due to:
- Affordable cost: Especially relevant for containers that have been previously used.
- Simple construction technology.
- Longevity of the metal structure with proper anti-corrosion treatment.
- The possibility of disassembly and relocation to a new location.
