Shipping containers can be used in many different ways

Sea containers are versatile and can be used in many different ways, not least for their original purpose of transporting goods across oceans. Here are some of the most common uses of shipping containers:

01

Storage

One of the most common uses of containers is storage. They are durable, weather-resistant and available in a variety of sizes, making them ideal for storing a wide range of items.

02

Office space

shipping containers can be converted into office space for businesses or even home offices. They can be customised with windows, doors, insulation and wiring to create a comfortable and functional workspace.

03

Retail space

Marine containers can be converted into pop-up retail spaces, food trucks or even permanent retail outlets. With a few changes, they can be made attractive and appealing to customers.

04

Housing

Sea containers can be used to create affordable housing for individuals or families. They can be stacked or combined to create multi-storey houses or apartments.

05

Emergency shelters

Sea containers can be converted into emergency shelters in case of natural disasters or humanitarian crises. They are easily movable and quickly set up to provide temporary shelter.

06

Workshop or studio

Sea containers can be converted into workshops or studios for artists, craftsmen or other creative workers. With some modifications they can provide ample working space and natural light.

07

Swimming pool

Marine containers can be converted into swimming pools, both above ground and in-ground. They are cost-effective and can be customised with different features such as heating and filtration systems.

All in all, the possibilities for using shipping containers are endless, limited only by imagination and creativity.

Frequently asked questions

Short and specific answers to the questions customers ask most often.

All questions →
How much does a shipping container cost in Latvia?

A used 20-foot container starts from €1,400, and a new one (One-Trip) from €2,400. A 40HC container costs from €1,650 used and from €3,100 new. Prices exclude VAT and delivery. The exact price depends on the container’s condition, year of manufacture, colour and order volume.

What is the difference between a new and a used container?

“New” on the shipping-container market means One-Trip — a container that has made a single voyage from the factory in Asia to Europe. It is practically unworn, with clean paintwork and no corrosion. A used container has served 8–15 years at sea: it may have dents, rust spots and signs of repair, but it remains watertight and suitable for storage.

What do CW, IICL and As Is mean?

These are designations of a container’s technical condition. IICL — the highest used-container category, meeting international leasing standards, with minimal wear. CW (Cargo Worthy) — fit for carrying cargo by sea, with a valid CSC plate. As Is — sold in its current condition; usually suitable for storage, but not for sea transport.

Can I inspect the container before buying?

Yes. All containers are located at our terminal in Riga, Kundziņsala, 2nd line 5. Contact us in advance on +371 26 959 689 and we will arrange a viewing time. You can inspect the containers in person, and also receive additional photographs via WhatsApp.

How much does container delivery cost?

The delivery price depends on the distance and the size of the container. Within Riga and its immediate surroundings, delivery is usually the cheapest, while for the regions the price is calculated by distance. We quote the exact delivery price together with the container offer — send us the address and we will work it out.

Does a container need a foundation?

A conventional foundation is not needed. A level, stable surface with support at the four corners is enough — concrete blocks, slabs or a gravel base. The main thing is that the container stands level and does not touch the ground around its whole perimeter: this provides ventilation, prevents corrosion forming underneath, and allows the doors to open properly.

What are the dimensions of a 20- and 40-foot container?

20DC external dimensions: 6,058 × 2,438 × 2,591 mm, internal volume approximately 33 m³. 40DC: 12,192 × 2,438 × 2,591 mm, approximately 67 m³. The 40HC (High Cube) is 30 cm taller — 12,192 × 2,438 × 2,896 mm, approximately 76 m³. A High Cube is advantageous if insulation is planned: after fitting-out, a full ceiling height remains.

Is a container more cost-effective than building a shed?

In most cases, yes. A container arrives ready to use — no construction work, foundations, roofing or several weeks of labour are needed. It can be locked immediately, it withstands the weather, and if necessary it can be moved to another location or resold, retaining much of its value. A wooden shed does not offer this.
